The test is the most fundamental explosibility test, used to determine whether a dust sample is explosible. If the sample is tested and found to be explosible, further testing is required to determine its explosion parameters, providing quantitative data for explosion protection design, such as building fire and explosion protection, the use of explosion-proof electrical equipment, electrostatic grounding, or explosion venting. If it is not explosible, the area where the dust is present is classified as a non-hazardous (with regard to dust explosion) area.
